At the Cabin: Wildflower Power

One of my favorite things about summers in the mountains is the unbelievable variety of wildflowers growing everywhere. This year's trip definitely didn't disappoint! Thanks to record snowfalls, some of which came as late as this April -- and is still blanketing the Buttes -- the streams are high and rushing, providing perfect conditions for the brilliant explosion of colors and shapes right now. Here are some of the flowers that I "picked" on the trails last week. Needless to say, I was stopping pretty often. Thank goodness Kevin's patient!

With the help of a wildflower identification poster that hangs above the stove at the cabin, I've been able to learn the names of many of these pretties over the years. There are still a few that have me stumped, though. (If you recognize the flowers in photos 5, 11, or 17... help a girl out!)

Up next, we'll take a look at the fauna of the forest!

  1. I sent Martha B. the link. She seems to know a lot about flowers. Lets see if she knows the one's your missing.

  2. Thanks, Serena!

Eddie, Martha seems to know it all! Gotta love her! :o)
